The Inuit who lived further north depended on small sea mammals such as seals for their
subsistence. They hunted seals in the winter, when they appeared in breathing holes.
Patience and a great ability to concentrate were required for the seal hunt because it
could take several hours for a seal to appear. In the summer, the Inuit sought other
mammals, including walrus, which were captured during periods of migration.
