Kayaks were also used to hunt belugas, which are found in northern Canada during their
annual migration. Once very abundant from Ungava Bay to James Bay, belugas supplied large
quantities of meat and fat. The Inuit also hunted caribou, mainly at the end of the
summer, during the annual migration. The whole family participated in the hunt, with the
women and children driving the animals towards the places where the hunters waited, hidden
from view.
