Since they did not trade with Europeans, the Inuit went to the fishermen's camps in the winter, once they had been abandoned, in search of pieces of iron and other manufactured objects. It was not until the 19th century that they began to participate in the fur trade, after being approached by the Hudson's Bay Company.
