Painter-singer from Puri
Midnapur District,

Nanigopal Chitrakar is among the few remaining active painters-singers
of West Bengal. Members of his community used to circulate through the
rural areas, performing for coins and food in village squares or on the
porches of houses. The subjects, presented with newsy humour, include
stories of Hindu deities, Muslim saints, Bengali heroes and local
disasters.
