Music and dance animate virtually every other form of artistic expression in India. Architecture, painting and sculpture often portray emotion through a dancer's poses and gestures, or the moods of music. Visual art is approached in a devotional mode in which verse and song are often a path to worship. Music is honoured not only for its passion to evoke and entertain, but also for its power to inspire and transform.
