Kong Ming, also known as Zhu Geliang, is a very popular historical figure in China. He was a famous strategist during the Three Kingdoms Period (A.D. 220-280) and is well known for his wisdom and loyalty. Many of his legends can be found in various forms of art.

As Prime Minister of the Shu Kingdom, Kong Ming commands his army to attack the powerful Wei Kingdom six times — missions which are called the 'Six Qishan Expeditions' in history books. This story takes place during the final battle of Kong Ming's sixth expedition.

The Wei general has received information that Kong Ming's health is in critical condition, and that he could die at any moment. As a result, the Wei general simply guards his base, waiting for Kong Ming to die before launching a final attack on the Shu army. Despite his illness, Kong Ming manages to plan the army's campaign, while also providing important advice to his country. The army follows his plans and returns home safely, with news of his death restricted to a select group of people. His corpse is dressed in armour, and is put in a combat vehicle in its usual sitting position. His troops continue to attack while the enemy retreats. The plan works, and the enemy is unable to advance.
