Traditional sounds of the guzheng
Gatineau, Quebec, May 16, 2007 — On May 26, enjoy an afternoon of traditional classical Chinese music at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Musician Zichan Yang will play the guzheng, one of China’s oldest instruments. Evidence has shown that this instrument dates back over 3,000 years – even before the Qin Dynasty (897–221 BC). The guzheng has a long history in China as both a court and a folk instrument and is considered the most dynamic solo instrument in Chinese traditional music.This activity in presented in conjunction with the Treasures from China exhibition where visitors will see some of the finest artifacts of human civilization that illuminate the rich history and achievements of the Chinese people. The exhibition is presented from May 11 to October 28, 2007.
