Learn the art of tapestry at the Canadian Museum of Civilization

Gatineau, Quebec, March 8, 2007 — On Sundays March 18 and 25, the Canadian Museum of Civilization invites you to try your hand at the loom with tapestry artist Thoma Ewen in the magnificent setting of the Grand Hall. Ewen’s workshop will give you and your family a hands-on introduction to this textile art, and together, you will create a small tapestry to take home.

Thoma Ewen is a tapestry artist whose work has been seen across Canada and the world for more than 30 years. She designs and weaves tapestry wall hangings for residential and public spaces, directs Community Tapestry Projects and Artist-in-the-Schools projects, and teaches tapestry workshops. This activity is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Unique! 30 Years of Outstanding Crafts, a special exhibition on display until August 5, which features 120 examples of Canada’s finest crafts made by the country’s most accomplished and creative craftspeople.
