PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

For immediate release

Gatineau, Quebec, January 14, 2014 — One of the permanent exhibitions at the Canadian Museum of History (formerly the Canadian Museum of Civilization) will soon close its doors to make way for the new Canadian History Hall, the largest, most comprehensive and engaging exhibition on Canadian history ever produced.

To allow for the creation of this new permanent exhibition, Face to Face: The Canadian Personalities Hall will close on February 2, 2014. This leaves visitors only a few weeks to get acquainted, or reacquainted, with 27 fascinating men and women who have made exceptional contributions to shaping the history of our country and its people.

In addition, the Canada Hall will also close its doors later this year, in September 2014.The Grand Hall, the First Peoples Hall, the Canadian Children’s Museum and the IMAX® Theatre will remain open.

Over the next several years, the Museum of History will have a lineup of special exhibitions on Canada’s history including shows on the Empress of Ireland, Confederation and Terry Fox. The Museum will also continue to present major international exhibitions. In 2015, the Museum will showcase The Greeks – From Agamemnon to Alexander the Great, the most comprehensive exhibition about Ancient Greece to tour North America, and We Call Them Vikings, an artifact-rich exhibition, comprised of many objects that have until now rarely been shown outside of Scandinavia.

The Canadian Museum of History looks forward to welcoming visitors to the new Canadian History Hall when it opens in 2017 as Canadians celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation.
