Discover ancient Petra’s desert chic – May 21 and 22

Gatineau, Quebec, May 16, 2006 — Fashion and jewellery in ancient Petra? That’s so two millennia ago! The Canadian Museum of Civilization takes retro to the extreme with two upcoming events, both presented in conjunction with the exhibition Petra: Lost City of Stone.

In Petra-Inspired Fashion, on Sunday, May 21, see what was posh in Petra by joining students from the Richard Robinson Academy of Fashion Design as they bring antique designs back to life in a fashion show.

On Monday, May 22, be dazzled by The Bejewelled Desert, as a jeweller reproduces antique Middle Eastern designs and an artist creates Arabic calligraphy. Carole Charvet of Buffet Limité of Montréal will demonstrate how she creates beautiful antique-style bronze jewellery using a variety of ancient techniques, while Mushfiq Hashimi will demonstrate his beautiful Arab calligraphy technique.
