Come to celebrate Canada Day at the Museum of Civilization!

 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

 Gatineau, Quebec, June 27, 2012 — Once again, the Canadian Museum of Civilization is the place this year to celebrate Canada’s birthday and enjoy the best view of the fireworks in the National Capital Region! 

On Sunday, July 1, admission is free to the museum from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Join us for some of the family activities planned specially for Canada Day. Starting at 11 a.m., the Children’s Museum Studio will invite kids to create contemporary fresco art. And from 1 p.m. on, visitors to the Grand Hall can make their own Diamond Jubilee crown or show what Canada means to them by creating a film, image by image, using the National Film Board’s PixStop app. 

July 1 is also the opening day of our new exhibition, A Queen and Her Country. Commemorating Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee, the exhibition highlights her many royal visits and her connection to seminal events in Canada’s history. 

Don’t miss the chance to get a close-up look at the Econoline camper van that was Terry Fox’s home away from home during his heroic Marathon of Hope in 1980. The iconic vehicle will be displayed in the Museum’s Main Lobby during the Canada Day weekend. 

Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope are a critical part of Canadian history. His courage and heroic sacrifice have helped us to define ourselves as Canadians. He is truly one of our nation’s greatest heroes. We are pleased to be supporting the preservation and management of the Terry Fox Collection, which documents Terry’s journey and ours as a nation and as a people. Ultimately, this work will advance our shared vision of finding a home for all things Terry that can be enjoyed by all Canadians and citizens the world over.

And for those who need a bit more action, be sure to go and stretch your legs at this season’s fourth Piknic Électronik Gatineau event, starting at 2 p.m. in the Museum’s riverside park.
