Civilization and War Museums are proud to partner with Ottawa’s Ronald McDonald House

Gatineau, Quebec, May 25, 2010 — The Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum are pleased to announce the creation of a special admission pass for guests at Ottawa’s Manoir Ronald McDonald House. Thanks to this new partnership, families attending to their children can now take a few hours to air their minds by visiting the two Museums free of charge.

The pass will provide free admission for up to four people at a time to either the Museum of Civilization — which includes the Canadian Children’s Museum — or the Canadian War Museum.

Every year, Manoir Ronald McDonald House provides a welcoming and supportive home for hundreds of families whose children are receiving treatment at CHEO for cancer and other serious illnesses. Stays at the house range from a single day to more than a year.

“A visit to one of our Museums can be a very welcome respite for these families and a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to share some special moments,” said Dr. Victor Rabinovitch, President and CEO of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation. “We are proud to play even a small role in easing their burden, and proud to be associated with Manoir Ronald McDonald House, which provides an invaluable service to families throughout the Ottawa Valley and beyond.”

This is the first partnership of its kind between Manoir Ronald McDonald House and any museum in the National Capital Region.

“We are very excited about this partnership with the Civilization and War Museums,” said Carol Houston, Executive Director of Manoir Ronald McDonald House Ottawa. “The family pass will give our guests an opportunity to visit these world-class museums and to ease, at least temporarily, the stress of coping with a sick child while living far from home.”

Ronald McDonald House is owned and operated by National Capital Children’s Oncology Care Inc., a charitable organization. Since opening in 1984, it has provided thousands of families with affordable accommodation in a homelike atmosphere close to one of Canada’s leading hospitals for children. It offers a warm and caring environment where families can turn to each other for comfort and support.

The Museums’ free admission pass provides access to all the permanent and special exhibition galleries at the Museum of Civilization and the War Museum with the exception of specially-ticketed events and the IMAX® Theatre. A similar pass is currently offered by the Museums through public libraries in the National Capital Region and surrounding regions, allowing library patrons to “borrow” the pass and visit one of the Museums for free.
