Gatineau, Quebec, December 17, 2015 — The Canadian Museum of History is giving the public a free glimpse of its special exhibition Vikings, courtesy of two new videos posted on its website and YouTube channel. The videos highlight some of the exhibition’s many outstanding artifacts, provide a brief introduction to the exhibition and reveal its unique and captivating design. Making these videos available online demonstrates the Museum’s commitment to engage with Canadians wherever in the country they live.

Acclaimed internationally, Vikings sheds new light on one of the most storied cultures in world history. The exhibition has already captivated over 1.3 million visitors on its current 10-country tour.

“The Canadian Museum of History is proud to present Vikings and to share these videos with Canadians from coast to coast to coast,” said Jean-Marc Blais, the Museum’s Director General. “The exhibition and videos underline our unique status as Canada’s national museum of human history and our mandate to present stories about both Canadian and world histories and cultures.”

Vikings was organized by The Swedish Museum of History and MuseumPartners of Austria. It takes visitors beyond the one-dimensional stereotype of Vikings as marauding barbarians and reveals an ancient Scandinavian culture of surprising refinement, complexity and achievement.

The videos produced and posted by the Canadian Museum of History are each about two minutes long. One provides commentary in English by Gunnar Anderrson, Senior Curator at The Swedish History Museum; the other provides commentary in French by Bianca Gendreau, Manager, Contemporary Canada and World, Canadian Museum of History. They can be viewed by clicking on English version and French version.

Vikings is presented at the Canadian Museum of History until April 17, 2016.

Located on the shores of the Ottawa River in Gatineau, Quebec, the Canadian Museum of History is Canada’s largest and most popular cultural institution, attracting over 1.2 million visitors each year. The Museum’s principal role is to enhance Canadians’ knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the events, experiences, people and objects that have shaped Canada’s history and identity, as well as to enhance Canadians’ awareness of world history and culture. Work of the Canadian History Museum is made possible in part through financial support of the Government of Canada.
