Canada’s connection to Petra and the Nabataeans

Gatineau, Quebec, January 15, 2007 – Join Queen’s University archaeologist Dr. Barbara Reeves at the Canadian Museum of Civilization on Sunday, January 21, for a talk about Canadian contributions to the excavation and display of Jordan’s archaeological treasures. Dr. Reeves will highlight the current excavation work in the Nabataean town of Hawara by archaeologists from Canadian Universities.

PETRA: Lost City of Stone, on display at the Canadian Museum of Civilization until February 18, 2007, showcases objects drawn from Jordanian, European, and American museums. However, it should not be assumed that only the scholars of those countries have contributed to our understanding of the Nabataeans. Canadian archaeologists have been excavating in Jordan for many years now and Canadian aid agencies have helped Jordan display and preserve its cultural heritage.
