Adventures with Clifford The Big Red DogTM – A new exhibition at the Canadian Children’s Museum

Gatineau, Quebec, Febuary 15, 2006 – This is an experience no family with young children would want to miss— the chance to meet CliffordTM, Emily ElizabethTM, and the gang on Birdwell Island when the exhibition Adventures with Clifford The Big Red Dog comes to the Canadian Children’s Museum from February 18 to May 7, 2006!  This fun-filled interactive exhibition began its tour at the Minnesota Children’s Museum on Valentine’s Day two years ago and has been enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of kids since then. This is the first time the Adventures with Clifford The Big Red Dog exhibition will be shown in Canada.

Based on Norman Bridwell’s hugely successful 1962 Scholastic Inc. book series, Clifford the Big Red Dog has become a household name and lovable friend for millions of families around the world. The award winning, animated series became a top-rated television show on PBS KIDS® in the year 2000, and three years later the spin-off, Clifford’s Puppy Days™, brought Clifford even closer to his young fans. The program is widely watched in Canada on CBC, Telé-Quebec and via cable on PBS, TFO and others.

Clifford, his owner Emily Elizabeth Howard, and her family, friends and neighbours on Birdwell Island come to life for children and families, in the 1,500-square-foot “paws-on” exhibition. It’s filled with exciting educational activities that reinforce Clifford’s Big Ideas: Share, Play Fair, Have Respect, Work Together, Be Responsible, Be Truthful, Be Kind, Believe in Yourself, Be a Good Friend and Help Others. Children from 2 to 8 years are thrilled to enter a world that is exciting yet familiar — a perfect place to experiment and learn some key life lessons.

Children can board the Birdwell Island ferry and slide down Clifford’s 9-foot tail the way Emily Elizabeth does on TV. Free to explore the Island, they’ll find buried treasures on T-Bone’s Beach, navigate their visit on a 3-D map, and take a job in Samuel’s Restaurant. All of this and more to the sounds of seagulls and ocean waves in a colourful, child-size environment that let’s kids enter a world designed for their needs and interests.

Families can enjoy a retrospective of artwork and stories by the creator and award-winning author of Clifford the Big Red Dog, Norman Bridwell. A relaxing area for sitting and looking at books allows young visitors to peruse the whole series of Clifford stories at their leisure and practice their reading.

The Canadian Children’s Museum is part of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, located in Gatineau, Quebec, in Canada’s National Capital Region. The Canadian Children’s Museum, the country’s largest and most visited museum for children, is designed to encourage children’s social, intellectual and personal growth.
