A Vietnamese celebration for children this weekend at the Canadian Children’s Museum

Gatineau, Quebec, September 20, 2006Trung Thu is Children’s Day in Vietnam. On the lunar calendar, it occurs on October 6 this year. At the Canadian Children’s Museum, we will be celebrating it this weekend – Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Children will have a chance to learn about this Vietnamese festival held in their honour at harvest time. Young visitors can make a lantern to carry or a mask to wear as they parade through the Museum’s International Village.

The highlight of the day for many will be the spectacular Unicorn Dance, performed by members of the Vietnamese Buddhist Youth Association of Ottawa at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Delicacies known as moon cakes will be served, rounding out a memorable taste of customs from a distant land.

This program is free with Museum admission.
