Canadian Museum of History welcomes new Member to its Board of Trustees

Gatineau, Quebec, May 28, 2019 — The Canadian Museum of History is pleased to welcome Alex MacBeath to its Board of Trustees. Mr. MacBeath’s appointment was announced by the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, following a rigorous selection process.

“I look forward to working closely with Mr. MacBeath as he helps guide the priorities of the Museums as a member of the Board,” said Dr. James Fleck, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “His vast experience in the business world, together with his work on various boards, and within the arts community, will be invaluable assets to the Museums over the coming years.”

Mr. MacBeath holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Dalhousie University, and was a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. He was CEO and Executive Partner of Grant Thornton Canada, one of the world’s largest independent accounting and consulting firms.

Mr. MacBeath has considerable expertise within the fields of change management and emerging markets and received the Globe and Mail National Award for Support of the Arts in recognition of his work on the Atlantic Ballet Theatre Company’s capital campaign. He has served on many Boards in the healthcare and cultural fields, including Health PEI, Island Advance, the MedicAlert Foundation of Canada, the UPEI Alumni Association, and the UPEI School of Mathematics and Computational Science. He is also deeply involved in arts and community initiatives, including the Canadian Authors’ Series, the Economic Club of Toronto, the Hospital for Sick Children, and the United Way.

Mr. MacBeath was appointed to the Board for a four-year term, effective immediately.

The 11-member Board of Trustees oversees operations of the Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum — Canada’s national museums of human and military history.

The Canadian Museum of History operates the Canadian Museum of History, the Canadian War Museum and the Virtual Museum of New France. Together, these Museums function as centres for research and public information on the history of Canada. Their principal role is to enhance Canadians’ knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the events, experiences, people and objects that have shaped Canada’s history and identity.
