Canadian Museum of History seeks Indigenous stories

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Gatineau, Quebec, July 4, 2018 — The Canadian Museum of History invites members of First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities to contribute their stories and oral histories to an upcoming exhibition about the international experiences of Indigenous peoples.

Indigenous Stories Beyond Borders (working title) will highlight the perspectives of groups and individuals from what is now Canada — those who have travelled the world as diplomats, warriors/soldiers, performers, artists, scholars and athletes, over many centuries. The exhibition will integrate historical and contemporary accounts of leadership, vision, creativity and courage to show how Indigenous peoples have asserted — and continue to assert — their sovereignty and identities beyond borders.

The Canadian Museum of History has a long history of working with Indigenous communities on different initiatives. This project is one of many in which the Museum has sought input and advice from Indigenous people — a recent example being the Canadian History Hall.

The curators are also interested in knowing about any photographs or objects you might have, or be aware of, that connect to your stories.
