A day for horse lovers!

Gatineau, Quebec, September 28, 2010 — The Canadian Museum of Civilization invites horse lovers and those wanting to know more about this majestic animal to get it straight from the horse’s mouth on October 3!

In conjunction with The Horse exhibition, presented until January 2, 2011, the Horse Symposium will feature a full day of all things equine, dedicated to a greater appreciation and awareness of this remarkable creature. Join horse industry professionals from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. as they share their knowledge of, and passion for, this multi-faceted animal.

Visitors can take part in various activities, including the chance to meet Newfoundland pony Mr. Maple, one of only 650 left in the world from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Waterfall Court.

Dr. Gilles Séguin, Director of the American Quarter Horse Association, will discuss the most popular breed of horses in the Americas excelling at sprinting short distances, beginning at noon in the Cascade Salon. Then, starting at 1 p.m. in the Theatre, Dr. Andrew Iarocci will consider the impact of mechanization and automobile culture on military horses during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

At 2:30 p.m., visitors will have the opportunity to meet Paul Popiel, Equine Canada Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, who will make a special appearance at the Museum to discuss various aspects of equestrian eventing, such as producing event venues, dressage, endurance tests, stadium jumping and much more.

This day dedicated to horses and horse lovers alike will end at 4:30 p.m. at the Theatre with the presentation of the documentary film The Horse Boy by Rupert Isaacson. Visitors of all ages will enjoy this dramatic and heart-warming chronicle that delves into the world of autism and the relationship between humans and animals.
