Only a few days left to see Tombs of Eternity

Gatineau, Quebec, August 7, 2009 — The exhibition that takes visitors on a journey to Ancient Egypt will soon be closing at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Museum-goers have until August 16 to discover the wonders of the afterlife in Ancient Egypt. Since opening, the exhibition has welcomed more than 220,000 visitors.

Tombs of Eternity: The Afterlife in Ancient Egypt features a remarkably rich and varied collection of artifacts — all of the rare objects that the Egyptians considered necessary for eternal life — that were discovered by archaeologists in the early 20th century. The burial chamber containing three human mummies is one of the most striking elements of the exhibition.

The IMAXTM film Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs, being shown in parallel with the exhibition, is also playing until August 16. The film shows the mysterious world of the Pharaohs: their fascinating culture, religion, medicine and daily life, and it demonstrates what scientists can learn from mummy DNA to help in developing medical treatments for modern diseases.

This exhibition is organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in collaboration with the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
