Canadian Museum of Civilization wins national award for most outstanding event

Gatineau, Quebec, April 4, 2007 – The Canadian Museum of Civilization received national recognition from the Canadian Event Industry Awards (CEIA) in the “Most Outstanding Event $100,000 – $300,000” category for the Civilization Costume Ball – A Journey Through Time fundraising gala held September 20, 2006 to benefit the Museum’s National Collection Fund. The Fund was launched last year to support the acquisition of important artifacts that might otherwise be lost to Canada’s heritage. The Museum was also nominated in the “Best Fundraising Event” category.

“It is remarkable to be nominated in two categories and to receive such an award for the corporation’s first major event for the newly established National Collection Fund,” said Dr. Rabinovitch, President and CEO of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation. “The Museum of Civilization tells our national history, and the Ball truly brought the people and events of Canada’s history to life in an entertaining celebration that our employees created with exceptional professionalism and creativity.”

Some 400 museum supporters, and community and corporate leaders donned period costumes to attend the Civilization Costume Ball – A Journey Through Time. Guests arrived for cocktails in the lobby and were greeted by Sir John A. Macdonald. They then joined groups representing different historic eras for a lively tour through Canadian history. Guests met again in the Museum’s Grand Hall and sat down to a gourmet dinner inspired by antique recipes. On stage, 150 years after William E. Logan founded the Museum in 1856, Queen Victoria returned to knight him.

The Ball was held to support the National Collection Fund, which was established on the occasion of the Museum’s 150th anniversary.

The Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation will host a second costume ball on October 17, 2007 at the Canadian War Museum to continue to build the National Collection Fund.
