If you are a blues fan, no matter what age, you won’t want to miss hearing this dynamic performer at the Canadian Museum of Civilization on July 8 and 9.Elyssa, three-time winner of the Quebec/Ontario Youth Music Festival, has been singing since the age of 5. Besides writing her own songs, Elyssa’s bilingual repertoire includes selections from blues, R&B, soul, Motown and jazz. She also excels in early classic rock, pop, musical theatre and classical. Let yourself be wowed by her powerhouse voice. The sounds of blues will fill the Grand Hall on Sunday, July 9 at 1:30 p.m. as this young, up-and-coming singer performs with Steve Boudreau and Robert “Zeek” Gross.

Elyssa Mahoney and a musician will also give two twenty-minute blues concerts at the Canadian Children’s Museum on July 8, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. This tiny but mighty 13-year-old has wowed tens of thousands with her voice since 1997 at over 200 performances.
In conjunction with this performance and in the spirit of the Blues Festival, join the Ottawa Blues Lady, Maria Hawkins, for a unique workshop. Learn what it takes to sing from your heart and soul. Maria will give an entertaining explanation of the structure of a blues song and experiment with the notion of blues as a medium for self-expression.
