Most of the artworks chosen for this section have an Ontario provenance and date from 1834 to 1908. Although the various styles of the artists differ widely, the paintings have a broad decorative appeal, particularly from a folk art point of view. The five marine paintings also provide a historical perspective on commercial shipping on the Lower Great Lakes during the period 1860 to 1910.
