Twill Diaper Coverlet
This twill diaper coverlet was collected many years ago in the Waterloo County region, where it was probably made. It combines two colours of cotton with dark blue and red wool. These types of coverlets were woven on multiple shaft looms and incorporated a type of all-over repeating design that gave rise to the term “twill diaper.” Most of the examples that have surfaced in Canada have come from Germanic communities and date from the mid-1800s.
