This elaborate oval pottery frame has an incised signature on the back, “John Marx Brantford.” John Marx was a professional potter who worked at several locations in Southwestern Ontario, including the Brantford Pottery at the start of the 1900s. The intricate latticework, coupled with the scalloped edges and stamped designs, would indicate that this frame may have been made for a special occasion or a competition of pottery wares.
