Os de mouton Armchair
The term “os de mouton” (French for sheep-bone) refers to the shape of the arms and lower frame of the armchair. This example reflects the style of the Louis XIV period and the transition to more fluid forms: straight lines gave way to curves. This chair features a serpentine front apron with a scalloped edge and cabriole arm supports. Collecting furnishings from France was popular in the United States during the 1920s, and many pieces from Quebec were taken south and sold to unsuspecting collectors.
