Jacquard Coverlet

Many of the jacquard coverlets woven around this time were intended as part of a bride's trousseau, and this example reflects the mainstream preferences of the day. The combination of dark indigo blue wool on a white cotton ground and the four roses pattern was among the most beloved during the mid-1800s. This coverlet was made for Catharine M. Smith in 1848 by the same unidentified Welland County weaver who made coverlet CMH 2007.22.141.
