Jacquard Coverlet
This coverlet was woven by an unidentified maker who was active in Welland County between 1835 and the 1850s and sometimes marked work with a star above the date. It may have been part of a bride's trousseau as it is decorated with a variation of a common wedding design known as “the four roses.” This example may also be referred to as a "tied doublecloth" because the two independent fabrics have been joined with a series of woven ribs along the warp.
