Chip Carved Storage Chest

The visual effect of this extensively chip carved box, with its rich colours, is exceptional. Originally found in the Saint John River valley area of New Brunswick, it may have been made by an Acadian artisan. Circular chip carved motifs have been associated for centuries, in many cultures, with folk art objects and mythological narratives of the sun.
