Chest of Drawers
The most interesting feature of this chest is its fine painted surface. The drawers are painted to simulate curly maple with rosewood or mahogany banding, the case is grained to simulate mahogany, and the gallery spindles and drawer edges are ebonized to provide additional contrast. A drawer bottom is faintly marked with the name Israel Moyer and the date 1854, which is likely the year that it was made. This chest is in its original condition with the exception of the turned feet, which have been replaced.
