Colander

Colanders are an unusual form in Ontario earthenware; they were used for rinsing and draining food. The applied rope handles, and the green and brown spots on the cream ground, contribute to an interesting and attractive piece. This elaborately designed colander was passed down in the family of Adam Bierenstihl, who operated a pottery in Bridgeport, Ontario, between 1867 and 1900.
