Portrait of Horse “Perfection”
John J. Kenyon was a photographer and artist who painted many animal portraits across Southwestern Ontario. He worked in oils and possibly painted from the photographs he had taken, which may explain the relative stiffness in some of his compositions. The text at the bottom of this painting provides the names of the horse’s father, mother and owner: “PERFECTION. Sired by Imp: Perfection Dam Molly Rysdyke. B. W. SPECK. Prop. Waterd[o]wn Ont.”
