Members only: The Archaeology of the St. Lawrence Iroquoian

Embark on an intriguing journey through time with Dr. Pierre Desrosiers and uncover the captivating story of the St. Lawrence Iroquoians. From their origin to their eventual disappearance as a cultural entity, the St. Lawrence Iroquoians stand as one of the most extensively examined archaeological cultures in Northeastern America. Who were these individuals? What motivated their settlement in the St. Lawrence Valley, spanning from the Saguenay region to Lake Ontario? What sets them apart from contemporaneous Algonquian and Iroquoian cultures? An introduction at our Research Centre will set the stage for a museum tour.

Pierre M. Desrosiers joined the Canadian Museum of History in 2019, after working during many years for the Indigenous peoples in northern Quebec. As Curator of Central Archaeology, he studies the Quebec and Ontario archaeology. Community Archaeology is for him not only a means of documenting the past, but also an educational tool inspiring student to pursue higher learning, while celebrating the importance of traditional knowledge, and the benefits of informal learning environments. He is also the editor of the Mercury Series published by the Canadian Museum of History.
