On this cover, postmarked "Bridgetown N.S., JA 22 1856", a Six Pence stamp and a bisect of a Three Pence were used to make up the 7½ pence postage rate. Bisecting the Three Pence (cutting it in half) was a common practice at the time, when lower denominations were not available
