Conquering the North Atlantic

Carried by Columbia

This stamp is from a special issue of 300 stamps printed for mail carried by Captain J. Erroll Boyd and Lieutenant Harry Connor on a transatlantic flight. Boyd and Connor left Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, on October 9, 1930 aboard the Bellanca monoplane Columbia. They were headed for Croydon, England, via Tresco, one of the Scilly Isles. The special issue was overprinted on a Newfoundland 36 Cents stamp.
