Conquering the North Atlantic

Transatlantic treasure

This letter, written by Captain John Alcock, was taken to England on the first successful non-stop transatlantic flight. Alcock wrote it two days before his departure. He left St. John's, Newfoundland, on June 14, 1919 in a Vickers Vimy airplane. He wanted Sir Trevor Dawson, of Vickers Ltd, to be among the happy few to receive a letter carried on the first transatlantic airmail flight.
