Potter from Darbhanga District
Bihar State
Eastern India
A potter shapes a horse for his neighbours to use as a ritual
offering. The name of his community, Kumhar, is derived from
the Sanskrit word kumbha (clay pot), but like many potters in
India, he produces not only pots, but also a wide range of
containers, tools, toys and sacred images.
