The flow of people to and from India has stimulated
many new trends in the arts. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries,
India was influenced by the art scene in London, Paris, New York and
Berlin. The way artists in Calcutta, Madras, Bombay and Baroda
responded to these ideas and overlaid them on their own rich traditions
is complex and can only be briefly acknowledged here.
