About the film

Beavers: The biggest dam movie you ever saw!

Set against the ruggedly stunning backdrop of the Canadian Rockies, Beavers follows a family as they grow, play, and transform the world around them. The film begins with two beavers, setting off together to build a new home. Overcoming adversity and showing enormous perseverance, the pair build a lodge, raise a family, and transform their habitat in astonishing ways.

Go on a Rocky Mountain adventure as you build and swim with these shy, hardworking creatures and discover their remarkable contributions to the natural world.

More information

Originally released in 1988, Beavers was the first giant-screen natural history film to feature a single creature. The film’s furry stars and their story earned multiple awards and drew extensive crowds, with viewers now numbering in the millions. In 2004, Beavers became the fifth film to be inducted into the Maximum Image Hall of Fame, an award discerned by the IMAX Corporation, voted on by giant-screen theatres worldwide.

This director’s cut of Beavers was originally filmed with IMAX® cameras entirely in 15 perf./70 mm. It has been digitally remastered at 8K, features new scenes, and will be presented at CINÉ+ using laser projection technology on the giant flat screen.

Over the years, Beavers has been screened in 21 countries and 17 different languages, and remains “the biggest dam movie you ever saw!” Beavers has never before been presented at the Canadian Museum of History. Now, with this giant-screen relaunch, new generations of movie-goers will have an opportunity to learn about and love the beaver: a Canadian emblem, and a Canadian icon.
