This sculpture represents Killer Whale, by contemporary Haida artist Pat Dixon (1938-2015). These reproduction pieces in high density resin are moulded from casts of original Haida carvings in argillite from the Canadian Museum of History’s collection. Argillite is a soft slate-like material found only on Haida Gwaii. Haida artists have carved this important material for trade and for sale since at least the early nineteenth century. 6 cm.
