| This Killer Whale, by contemporary Haida artist Christian White (b. 1962), represents the Knight in a chess set. These reproduction pieces in high density resin are moulded from casts of original Haida carvings in argillite from the Canadian Museum of History’s collection. Argillite is a soft slate-like material found only on Haida Gwaii. Haida artists have carved this important material for trade and for sale since at least the early nineteenth century. 6.5 cm. |
