Description
Betty Albert, also known as Wabimeguil, is a professional artist from the Chapleau Cree First Nation in Northern Ontario. Since 1991, she has developed a distinct style of Indigenous art that honors the strength and spirituality of native women, deeply rooted in the land and culture of the James Bay Cree. Her work, created in solitude, reflects the peace she finds in her sacred space of creation and has been celebrated across North America, particularly by her own people. Betty divides her time between Ontario and Manitoba, where she cherishes time with her family and ceremonial community.
