This pole depicts Wasco with two Whales, beneath which is the Raven, disguised as a Woman with a labret, from the story of Raven’s adventure with the Halibut fisherman. These reproduction pieces in high density resin are moulded from casts of original historical Haida carvings in argillite from the Canadian Museum of History’s collection. Argillite is a soft slate-like material found only on Haida Gwaii. Haida artists have carved this important material for trade and for sale since at least the early nineteenth century. 13.5 cm. |
