This sculpture represents Killer Whale on top of Raven, by contemporary Haida artist Ed Russ (1953-2006). These reproduction pieces in high density resin are moulded from casts of original Haida carvings in argillite from the Canadian Museum of History’s collection. Argillite is a soft slate-like material found only on Haida Gwaii. Haida artists have carved this important material for trade and for sale since at least the early nineteenth century. 12 cm.
