This pole represents Beaver, Bear and Killer Whale, by contemporary Haida artist Denny Dixon (b. 1944). These reproduction pieces in high density resin are moulded from casts of original Haida carvings in argillite from the Canadian Museum of History’s collection. Argillite is a soft slate-like material found only on Haida Gwaii. Haida artists have carved this important material for trade and for sale since at least the early nineteenth century. 25 cm.
