Jessica Somers, born in Sudbury, Ontario, currently resides in Lavigne, Ontario. She is Odanak Abenaki, with a Métis heritage from her grandmother. Her grandmother’s passion for creating scenic and wildlife paintings profoundly influenced Jessica. Additionally, her father’s dedication to carpentry and his strong work ethic have played a significant role in shaping her successful career as an artist.
Jessica’s artwork deeply reflects her connection to the natural world and the generational knowledge shared within her community. Inspired by the teachings of elders from her Nation, she creates pieces that honor these traditions and ensure their preservation for future generations. Through her art, Jessica engages in self-reflection and seeks peace, while also sharing knowledge, teaching moral lessons, and telling stories.
