This watercolour painted by Admiral Sir George Back in 1836 depicts the HMS Terror next to an iceberg in the Canadian Arctic. Years later, the Terror along with its sister ship, HMS Erebus, were lost during Sir John Franklin’s ill-fated expedition. The Franklin Expedition left Britain to find the Northwest Passage on May 19, 1845.
