Published by John Bushell, the weekly Halifax Gazette was the first newspaper in Canada. Beginning only 3 years after the founding of Halifax, the paper would continue until just after Confederation in 1867, when it became the Nova-Scotia Royal Gazette — the official record of legislation in the new province.
