“Nice Women Don’t Want the Vote”: the voice of our visitors
A section in the “Nice Women Don’t Want the Vote” special display invites visitors to voice their opinion on the topic of voting rights for women by answering three simple questions:
- If you could say one thing to a suffragist from 100 years ago, what would it be?
- What is one issue facing Canadian women today that has yet to be resolved?
- I want to vote because…
Since the special display opened at the Museum in October 2016, many Canadians from all walks of life have shared their thoughts on these important questions. To celebrate the legacy and impact that suffragists like Nellie McClung and Irene Mae Whyte have had — and continue to have — on women’s rights, we’ve shared some of their comments in this photo gallery.

“Nice Women Don’t Want the Vote” was created by the Manitoba Museum and is presented at the Canadian Museum of History until March 12, 2017.
