Arctic Coast Chopper — Winterlude

Canadian Museum of History, IV-C-6123, D2007-12482

Created by Jamasie Padluq Pitseolak, this imaginative and intricate carving integrates familiar symbols of Inuit culture, such as the igloo on the engine, the inukshuk on the gas tank and the sledge as the seat, and a motorcycle. This artist from Cape Dorset, Nunavut, masterfully combines different shades of local green stone to achieve visual contrast.
